Glass Blowing at SHX

We had a glass blower come and do some demonstations and create custom pieces for people at Shenandoah Crossing this weekend. It was so cool. And educational! and fun too! He was not doing what most people consider glass blowing, that of taking a blob of glass on the end of a pipe and blowing into it and putting it in a fire. That is "soft glass". This is flame working or lamp working and uses borosilicate glass. We know it as "pyrex" type glass. It is very strong and durable. He made marbles, vases, heart pendants, cool teardroped shaped necklace pendants, glass flowers for Mother's Day gifts and had lots of stuff on display as well. It is always interesting to me to see how an artist interprets a request for "a kiwi colored vase with a darker green ribbon around it, like the blue one on this vase." It turned out really cool, just not what I had seen in my head. I guess that is part of the art that is so cool. If I wanted to have it turn out the way I envisioned it, I better get my own tools and do it myself! LOL!

I am glad we got to have Forrest Day from Daydreamer Glass come visit Shenandoah Crossing - we already have requests wanting to know "when will he be back?" (Sometime in June folks!).

Enjoy the art!
