Fall at the Crossing

What a crazy busy summer! So many great things happened at Shenandoah Crossing that I was unable to keep up my blogging! I promise to be better!

We are now into the cooler temps and the pace has slowed down some.We still have tons to do and are really excited that we get to use some of our outdoor spaces more now that the heat has died back and makes it a little more bearable.

We are having a great time with our Comedy Improv shows once a week. They have been happening out in the Amphitheater and the trees have been shakin' with laughter! Thanks to the Bent Improv group out of Charlottesville, VA for coming out each week and bringing us laughter and cheer. You can check them out online at www.benttheatre.com if you like.

We have Ghost Stories on the Trail still going strong with Ethan and James. Damian, one of our great storytellers has left to move to the big city of Philly and pursue his acting career but we were fortunate to find Ethan and he and James make a great storytelling pair. Come, let them give you the chills as you hike in the trails.

We have upcoming parties and events for guests and local owners that we want you to know about also! We have the Last Call Band playing at Freedom Hall on October 16th from 8-11 pm. Country music and fun dancing will be happening!

On October 30th from 12-3 we will have our Children's Halloween party in the Great Hall. That night we will have an adult dance starting at 8 pm with DJ Jason. More details will follow but be sure to save the date!

Will check back in soon! Til then - Happy trails!

Dairy Month at SHX

We kicked off our Colorful Ways to Play Dairy Month with a delicious meal served by our fabulous Food and Beverage staff and then everyone got to get milk mustaches for our group picture! I don't know who was laughing harder, the group or the photographer! LOL! What a great way to kick off our All things Dairy Celebration!

Glass Blowing at SHX

We had a glass blower come and do some demonstations and create custom pieces for people at Shenandoah Crossing this weekend. It was so cool. And educational! and fun too! He was not doing what most people consider glass blowing, that of taking a blob of glass on the end of a pipe and blowing into it and putting it in a fire. That is "soft glass". This is flame working or lamp working and uses borosilicate glass. We know it as "pyrex" type glass. It is very strong and durable. He made marbles, vases, heart pendants, cool teardroped shaped necklace pendants, glass flowers for Mother's Day gifts and had lots of stuff on display as well. It is always interesting to me to see how an artist interprets a request for "a kiwi colored vase with a darker green ribbon around it, like the blue one on this vase." It turned out really cool, just not what I had seen in my head. I guess that is part of the art that is so cool. If I wanted to have it turn out the way I envisioned it, I better get my own tools and do it myself! LOL!

I am glad we got to have Forrest Day from Daydreamer Glass come visit Shenandoah Crossing - we already have requests wanting to know "when will he be back?" (Sometime in June folks!).

Enjoy the art!

JDRF 5K

On a beautiful Saturday in April you want to go walk 5K or 3.1 miles don't you? Well, these folks did and they did it for a great cause! They biked, they walked, and they ran 5K for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We raised over $200 at the walk with 21 walkers. We had resort guests, employees, managers, and homeowners all sharing the road. Before the race was water, fruit and bagels and after pizza and brownies! Go Team Bluegreen! Thanks for helping us reach our resort goal of $1000 raised for JDRF!

Shenandoah Crossing Springs into Eggsitement!

Easter weekend brought us glorious weather and lots of fun activities here to Shenandoah Crossing! We kicked off the weekend with a Bunny Hop dance held Friday night. There was a donation at the door collection for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and we raised over $100. It was lots of fun to see all ages out dancing to the tunes of our DJ Olivia.

On Saturday the fun continued with a Moon Bounce for the kids, crafts on the tennis courts which included Easter Egg decorating (really cool method using aluminum foil and paint! http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/egg-dyeing-aluminum-foil-technique-668379/), Chic making, Egg Scratch offs and magnets for the fridge in either a frame or egg shape. The Easter Bunny made an appearance and posed for pictures with the kids too! Then came the egg hunt! Over 2000 eggs found and cracked open for the prizes inside - all done in under 10 minutes! LOL!

On Easter Sunday we had a Bake Sale for JDRF and Easter Bonnet making for the kids. At 2 pm there was a parade around the Great Hall showing off the bonnets to the folks gathered there.

A great time was had by all! Thanks for coming out and enjoying Easter Weekend here at Shenandoah Crossing!
